More than 2,000 animal species around the world are on the verge of extinction. Even more are endangered and need protection. And then there are tens of thousands of animal species never seen by people who live in cities. We believe that human detachment from nature is no less a problem than the gradual extinction of species.

ALROSA created Zhivyye Almazy Nature Park near Mirny to help animals and introduce people to them. 32,0000 hectares in size, the park recreates natural conditions as much as possible and is home to dozens of animal species of the Russian north: deer, moose, bison, muskoxen, Manchurian wapitis, hares, lynxes, and bears. There are currently 133 animals living in the park, including 26 young ones. There are no small enclosures and cages, so the animals can spend time as they choose (of course, predators are kept separately). The landscape is adorned with thick blueberry and ligonberry forests, crystal clear rivers, and blue lakes interconnected by icy brooks.

The park’s upkeep requires about $60,000 (4 million rubles) every year.

There is no admission fee, and many visitors offer to help with animal care. School classes «sponsor» some animals. Visitors can play with the animals and even give them names. This is a unique opportunity to introduce city dwellers, and especially children, with the beauty and uniqueness of nature, to teach them about care for the environment, devotion, and responsibility.

Hunting and fishing are strictly prohibited within the park.
